This Week's Activities

September 8 - Starbuck's Office Hours

Join the chaplain and other Canterbury this Thursday afternoon from 12pm-3pm at the Starbucks on Mac Davis Ln. across from campus. We will hang out, talk about our faith, do homework, and drink some coffee. Coffee is free, so come hang out anytime during the afternoon.

September 8 - Canterbury Gardening Group

This summer, Canterbury planted a garden! We planted several tomato, pepper, herb, bean, and cucumber plants. If you are interested in helping the gardening group, please contact Hana 806-281-2959. We tend the garden at 6pm every Thursday. Feel free to show up and help any time. The time commitment will vary each week, but meeting should not last longer than 30 or so minutes.

September 8 - We Aren't Strangers

Join us this Thursday night at 7pm for a small meal and for a safe place to find community and belonging. It will be a time for connection, belonging, sharing our stories, expressing our emotions, and the great thing about this event will be that it is open to all people. This is a space where all people can be fed physically, emotionally, and spiritually while at the same time honoring everyone’s faith traditions and gifts and light that we all bring to this community. And we promise that we will not try to convert you or change you. That is not the way we do things here. All we want to do is to know you, love, and support you as a student here at Texas Tech. Come a join us!We meet at Canterbury House at 2407 16th Street, just one block from campus.

September 10 - Canterbury Football Parking Fundraiser

One of the ways that Canterbury supports our ministry is through a variety of fundraisers each year. Please sign up for these fundraisers so that we can have funds to go on trips and do fun things. Today, we will be selling parking for the football game. We will meet at Canterbury two hours before kick-off and will finish up just after kick-off. You will still have plenty of time to go to the game. If you are helping, please make sure to prepare for the weather. Hot days can be really hot, so make sure to bring a hat, sun screen, water, and cool clothes. Time: 1:00pm.

September 11 - Sunday Services

Join us for worship at 6pm on Sunday at Canterbury Episcopal Campus Ministry at Texas Tech. We will worship together, and then we will share a home cooked meal served by the wonderful Episcopalians from St. Christopher's. Come for the service and meal or just show up to for meal. All students are welcome!

Other Announcements

Confirmation Classes - Would you like to learn more about your faith, or would you like to join the Episcopal Church? Our confirmation classes might be the right thing for you. We are starting a confirmation class in the next couple of weeks. If you are interested in attending a confirmation class, let the chaplain know. You can call or text 575-631-5345.

Bible Study Small Group- Would you like to study the book of Revelation with a couple of other Canterbury students? If so, text the chaplain at 575-631-5345. A few students have shown interest, and if you would like to join us, we would like your input on time and place to meet.

Serve at the Altar - Would you like to serve at the altar or help to read during the service? Catch the chaplain after the service on Sunday to ask for training times or text at 575-631-5345.

Would You Like to Attend Diocesan Convention? - Canterbury has been invited to attend Diocesan Convention on October 6-7. Convention will take place on the campus of Texas Tech. The Bishop has agreed to pay for Canterbury students' fees if the students will help to work convention. Convention will include a Eucharist, a business meeting, and a dinner/dance. All your meals will be paid for. If you are interested in attending convention, please let the chaplain know.

Outreach to the Homeless and Working Poor in Lubbock - Would you like to minister to the homeless and working poor in Lubbock, TX? If so, talk to the chaplain about getting on a team for St. Benedict's chapel and soup kitchen. To learn more about St. Benedict's, click here.

Interested in a Key to the Building? - Canterbury policy states that active members of Canterbury who have attended consistently for at least one month may obtain a key from the chaplain. If you are interested, call or text the chaplain at 575-631-5345.

Do You Need Help? The Canterbury chaplain has a small discretionary fund to help students with food, living necessities, or emergencies. If you need help for any reason, please contact the chaplain at 575-631-5345.
